Opinel No6 is the smallest model that features the Virobloc safety ring. This little knife is non-threatening and very durable. It is small enough to be placed in a pocket or purse and will “deliver” when needs be.
Blade: Carbon Steel
Our carbon steel is extremely hard, thereby guaranteeing excellent cutting quality, good wear resistance and easy regrinding. Carbon can corrode easily. We advise you to avoid damp locations and to wipe and grease the blade after use.
Caring For Your Carbon Knife
Avoid leaving your carbon blade knife in damp environments for too long. Place a little food grade mineral oil on all metal parts regularly. Dry the blade using a dry cloth after each use. Opinel carbon knife blades are made using steels with a high carbon content, which is what makes it possible to achieve the excellent hardness after heat treatment, guaranteeing the strength of the cutting edge, resistance to wear and easy of sharpening. The hardness obtained after heat treatment are theoretically slightly greater in steels that do not contain chrome. The cutting strength is therefore better with a carbon steel knife and sharpening is much easier than a stainless steel blades which contain chrome. However, carbon has a low resistance to corrosion caused by moisture, which means that certain precautionary measures are necessary when using and storing a carbon knives: we recommend that you avoid damp environments and that you dry the blade after each use.
Beech is the most commonly used wood for the manufacture of Opinel handles. From France, our beech is hard, durable and easy to work. With a homogeneous appearance, its light color varies from yellow to pink. It is characterized by the presence of numerous small, -dark dashes.
Yatagan Style: The classic Opinel blade has adopted a Yatagan shape. The Yatagan shape is inspired by a traditional Turkish saber, the toe up. The blade is ground to an exclusive convex profile that ensures the strength of the blade and allows efficient regrinding.
This knife is by far the sharpest out of the box I have ever purchased. Great handle, superb weight, cuts long and deep. And the handle is picking up a nice patina too!
This is my first Opinel and my first type with this type of lock. I'm very pleased with how this knife is constructed. I haven't had many chances to use it but I enjoy carrying it.
I purchased 2 Opinel No.8’s back in the 70’s and they are still in use to this day. Both have carbon steel blades. Yes.. they tarnish, but make up for it with holding an edge better than the stainless variants. The simple locking collar keeps the super sharp blade from slicing the wrong things. This No.6 is a nice size for many uses. Take care of it and you could pass it on the the next generation.
Gotta be the most bang for the buck of any knife I've ever bought. At $12.50 it's almost disposable. The cost of a fancy coffee and pastry
Light, thin and sharp. I did touch up the blade so now it flies through things.
I needed it to get to the Free Shipping and I'm glad I picked it up.
