I could tell right out of the box that this radio is a winner. Once I put the batteries in and the display lit up I was very excited to turn this thing on. MW (AM) was crazy alive with stations. More than I knew that could be received in my area. The addition of the plug in ferrite antenna clarified stations and facilitated fine tuning by rotating to it. Now for the technical part. I don’t understand side band or the different SW bands. Need to make a cheat sheet and study up on this. The quick tips guide included is easy to follow and understand, but doesn’t go far enough if you are not familiar with SW, LW, or SSB. I’ve searched videos on this radio and some are informative but most all are reviews and don’t walk you through step by step operating. I have a lot to learn. The Radio has a ton of handy features and is smaller than I expected. I’ll keep plugging away and eventually master this quality piece of tech.
Great for me as I’m rarely pointed in the right direction, but also never in true backcountry, where more detailed features would be required. Fits into a pocket, on a zipper, or in my Altoids tin sized EDC!
Just wanted to post some info my CountyComm companion compass and chain for those who might be interested.
I ordered the titanium compass and small ball chain hoping to make a wearable emergency compass. Unfortunately the hole in the compass lug was slightly too small. So I drilled it out with a 7/64 bit and it worked out great. This left a rough edge but I was able to chamfer the hole with a 3/16 bit and it turned out great. After trimming the ball chain and assembly the result turned out better than expected. Pic included, because who doesn't like pics with a review.
