the Grilliput is a 2 lb collection of stainless steel rods and folded metal frames and 4 pins that assemble into a frame with over a dozen wires held tight by the two v-trough frames that are supported up over say coals from a fire by the four metal posts. Some height adjustment is possible by indexing wires against the slots cut into the four posts but the overall height is only several inches anyway so I doubt getting closer is going to be desirable. Seems well made when assembled but I haven't put the assembly over a cooking fire or collection of coals yet. The matches are about the size of small pencils (longer but similar in cross section to the wood pencils at IKEA for example) and should go for 1-2 minutes; the tubular case uses a rubber type end cover to protect the match striker surface (extras included) and a screw cap top encloses the matches with a rubber type o-ring for protection. Very robust feel to the size and shape; a bit more cotton can be added to cushion the matches; enough space is left so a ferrosteel and striker (small ones) and 1-3 wax or other tinder plugs could be added for completeness I suppose. there is a extrusion on the main body that can be used to tie off some cordage to secure the unit.
Can’t wait to burn some burgers on this thing. It took me a while to put it together, because let’s face it I’m a Man and I don’t need directions. Lol
Once I “figured” it out, it all came together quickly. It looks sturdy and in living room trials it easily held the weight of a curious terrier. I’m planning on taking it to summer camp with the scouts and will let you know how it faired.
