Referred to in military circles as the "FS104 METAL SURVIVAL MATCH"
Here they are again, back by popular demand, THE METAL MATCH. These are leftovers from our last contract. This is essentially a high grade piece of flint in military specification form. This bar of flint is enough to create many thousands of fires. All are brand new, in factory bags.
The FS104 is 1.75 inches overall. The rod diameter is 1/4" and includes a striking tool although most any knife blade will work just fine.
Bought this to add to my first aid kit. Small and light but throws showers of sparks
Sure, the match will throw sparks whether it's wet or dry, but those sparks must land on something that's eager to burn. The video shows "clothing lint, fresh from the dryer", which I'm unlikely to have in a survival situation. An ordinary paper towel? It caught a lot of sparks, but did not ignite. On ordinary paper towel plus three drops of gasoline? Oh, yeah!
I don't think anyone should worry that this device will start a fire by accident, even if it's in a pack that gets tossed around in transit. Practice using it before you need to use it.
