Love the quality of the watch, great size. My only two wishes are that the sapphire was flat instead of domed (personal preference) and I wish the lum of the dial was a bit brighter. After being outside or exposed to a light source, they burn bright; after a short time the lum becomes very dim. Still my everyday watch and would recommend.
First, I want to praise and thank CountyComm for putting out these watches. I’m sure it is a risky venture to come out with a “micro-brand” watch line (Maratac - Is that a concatenation of Marathon and Adanac, I wonder?), and they’ve done a great job.
I’m a watch guy, and more specifically a tool-watch guy. I’ve owned tool watches from Jaeger LeCoultre, Tudor, Omega, Marathon, and a few I’ve cobbled together from parts on my own.
Fit and finish on the X1D SR-35 case is excellent. I have an Omega X-33, also in titanium, and I compared them under my inspection microscope, and the Maratac offering is finished every bit as well. The subdued, brushed finish has an understated and even elegant silky appearance. The hands, hour and minute indices line up perfectly. Watches costing multiples of the Maratac sometimes get this wrong. The same goes for the one-way rotating bezel. The detentes are in precise half-minute clicks, and the indices line up nicely. The general appearance is tidy and clear - just what you want for a tool watch. The lume is really bright, and kept the dial easily readable all night. Thanks to the titanium, the watch is lighter than its appearance would lead you to believe. After wearing for 24 hours, there are no pinch points or hot spots.
Some may find the separate shipping of the titanium bracelet to be off-putting, but I like it. The bracelet was packed in a nice tin and was cleverly protected from scratches. The end-links and spring-bars are smartly packaged in separate thick poly bags and arrived in perfect shape. I installed the bracelet myself, but I’m a pretty advanced hobbyist and do that kind of thing often. CountyComm’s advice to have a pro do it is sound, unless you know what you are doing or don’t care about adding some character marks.
So far, the watch is keeping time to +5 seconds a day, which is pretty darn good for a commodity movement.
I do have some small suggestions for improvement. The County Comm Trident logo is really well executed on the dial and case back. It would be cool if it was also on the crown, but I understand this would be expensive to implement. Also, I’ve reached the age where a magnified date window would be welcome. Lastly, there is slightly more play between some of the bracelet links than I would like (but not enough to rattle). These suggestions would make the watch marginally better in my opinion, but these are trifles on a well-executed watch with decent value for money.
This watch is subtle, great looking, and very light. My first titanium watch, very impressive. Thanks for making a quality watch.
Absolutely perfect. Now bring back the DLC version with a date window so I can buy it again and keep it on a black NATO!
