Swiss Quick Disconnect Key Chain
Here's how the Swiss carry their keys. What a convenient way to separate your work keys from your home keys or just leave your car keys with the valet.
Not a lot to say about these 100% Swiss Made Q-D (Quick Disconnect) key chains. They also make a great way to organize your EDC gear.
Product seems to be well-built as advertised. Easy to detach. Comes in a Victorinox box. So far so good. I purchased two more and I recommend same.
These are the good quick disconnects. You won’t loose your keys like the cheap novelty ones do. The split rings are ok, easily upgradeable to Ti though. I would buy again.
Besides the obvious use for the car ignition key, I take advantage of the ability to “keep like things together”. I use one to keep the striker with the fire starter rod. Another to attach my fire piston to the dual compartment storage tube sold here.
The key point of the “things together” is that they can be separated for use, then easily joined together so both parts stay together. This feature is not a trifle. Most of us have had the situation where we find part A, but have to hunt for the elusive part B to do what is needed.
It’s useless to just use a split ring, often the situation requires one part in each hand; thus the ability for separation is required.
As to the particular device; I will use no other similar one. Take the classic “ignition key” as an example. How would you feel when you reach for it, and the part failed – with the key lost? This is the only one I trust. My ignition keys, car, camper, and motorcycle are attached to The Swiss Quick Disconnect Key Chain. They have been for years.
I’m ordering four more; “joining situations” keep coming to mind. Fit, Finish and Function; and most of all reliability are available at a very reasonable low price. Order more than one – these get used – often.
I don't like a big ball of keys swinging from the ignition in the car or on the handlebars/triple tree of the motorcycle. It's distracting, and it's plausible it could wear out the ignition prematurely as well. I got one for every vehicle key, and put one of the socket ends on my A&P keyring (also from CountyComm). Just choose the vehicle key you need, clip it on, and walk out the door. Also good for the valet or mechanic, or even when somebody needs the house keys while the other waits in the car.
