MIL-A-8625 Type III Clear Natural Anodized Aluminum ( extremely hard at 60-70 on the Rockwell C scale )
After numerous responses and requests with the Standard Peanut and Split Pea Lighters our staff members wondered what could be done to make it better. The answer is make it bigger and also increase the size of the spark wheel for even easier use with and without gloves. These two changes make a dramatic difference in extended run time and versatility of use in any condition. The XL Peanut Lighter is also perfect for extended trips where you will need more than a few days of firestarting.
Make sure to keep one in your: First Aid Kit, EDC / Prepper Bag, Car, Kitchen, Backpack…
Remember you will always need a knife and fire to survive in the wilderness.
Here's what we came up with to improve it:
I have a smaller one that has a nice little flame. The XL has a huge flame that you can hardly blow out. I thought about trimming the wick but decided against it. The rubber gasket is a little thin. I hope it lasts.
Bought this to clip inside my Maratac Bac Sac just in case I need a fire source. It's super tough, so I'm not worried about it getting damaged at all. My only nitpick is that even though it lights very well after one or two tries right after I open it up, it gets successively harder to light the longer I leave it open. Not sure if that's just the nature of the beast with this type of lighter or what. Other than that, I'm happy with the purchase.
