The pocket grappling hook was originally built by EOD Robotics, Inc. at the request of a desert warfare operator. He explained his need for a light weight, reusable grappling hook that could be used to snag trip wires or command detonation wires on IEDs in a combat environment. Soon other members of the military saw how useful they were and ordered another production run.
These hooks are not certified for life support activities and should not be used for any life support function. They are designed to pull trip wires and via horizontal use..

Flexible: use it as a specialized grappling hook to remotely capture lines, tear down phone lines, reposition barbed wire emplacements, disrupt wires, move packages and bags, rake and break windows, tear down blinds/curtains in SWAT entry applications. - Remove the spikes from the outside and use it to cast a line. This is currently being used by military RTOs (radio telephone operators) to string field expedient HF antennas.
- Use it as a waterproof storage container to protect important items from water damage (when the spikes are removed).
- Materials: The body is made of T6061 aluminum. The spikes are made of 300 series stainless steel
Micro:
After the success of the "pocket grappling hook", EOD Robotics, Inc. was asked to produce a even smaller version that can be easily carried and hand thrown or deployed with a fishing rod and affordable by the average soldier.
This is a light weight, reusable grappling hook to be used to snag trip wires or command detonation wires on IEDs in a combat environment. Designed to be small enough to carry, but big enough to complete it's mission.

Pico:
This is a light weight, reusable grappling hook to be used to snag trip wires or command detonation wires on (IEDs) in a combat environment. Designed to be small enough to carry, but big enough to complete it's mission.

Weight (without water or sand ballast) 5 oz. - Collapsible: The spikes unscrew and are stored in the water resistant O-ring sealed body.
- Variable weight: by adding sand, dirt or water into the body of the grappling hook you can increase the weight of the hook for more effective throwing range.
IMPORTANT: The pocket grappling hook is not designed for life support applications and should not be used for such applications. As with all tools, use with extreme caution. This was designed to snag trip wires in a combat environment, not snag shopping carts full of rocks from a creek or whaling operations. Use the appropriate tool for the task at hand.
Like most of the other things I’ve ordered, I don’t have a real need for this grappling hook, however the pico is the perfect size for EDC! I have it together with a spool of Dynema thread in case I do ever need to use it. I will more than likely order the other sizes as well.
I ordered the Pocket Grappling Hook to add to my Camping/Adventuring Gear. I found it a useful tool for Hanging Food Items out of reach and away from the campsite. It worked great for this. I hooked up my Titanium Double Swivel Shackle(purchased here) to the Lanyard hole and then added 2 Paracords, one tied to the end close to the lanyard hole, and the other strung through the free end of the Shackle with a bread tie twisted around so it would stay upon throwing. I gave the grappling hook a toss over a 12-15ft branch. It sailed over and I pulled it back tight. Anchored the tied off end with a stick I tamped into the ground. Then yanked the twistix tie free. I sent our cooler and trash bag up by pulling the free end. The shackle acted like a pulley, and the Grappling hook held firm. Locked in place on the branch and holding about 15-20lbs. In the morning I went to lower the items and found everything safe and sound. As soon as I relieved the pressure on the hook it lowered to the ground. It was perfect, and made me look like Batman to my son. Priceless. Later in the day my son took the Micro version I have into the woods. He had a blast with it. He returned to camp with a few fishing lures, a set of car keys, and a very nice hunting knife in a sheath. He had gone down to the pier and started fishing with it tied to a 20' piece of Micro Cord. He told me he was just throwing the end in and reeling it back when he got it snagged. He got it free and pulled it back in to find the first of his treasures, the Hunting Knife in a black Leather sheath. He showed me how it was hooked, right on wrist lanyard that was tied on the end of the knife. He sat down there for hours tossing it back in the water over and over for the whole weekend. Always returning with something. I had to give it to him and order another. Again, Priceless. Grab one and let your imagination take flight, or better yet, hand it to your 15yr old and see what kind of things they can find. He now wears it around his neck on a "large" titanium ball chain at all times with a length of paracord in his pocket. I keep the Pico around my neck as well. The Pocket version is just that. A pocket sized grappling hook that you can carry all the time, or add to your pack. It is very light, and takes up little space. It is constructed of High Quality Metals and holds up after many uses, and misses. LOL The O rings keep the Prongs snug and tight in the coarse threading. Acting like a lock washer of sorts. I am sure we will find more uses for all of the grappling family over time. So Cool
I actually discovered Countycomm searching for this little gem, now I'm about 5 flashlights and half a tank worth of titanium deep in this rabbit hole- but seriously this hook is fantastic I have all 3 because why not? It's the perfect tool to keep in my Frisbee golf bag for retrieving stray discs. Excellently manufactured, purposely built. This is not that cheap crap you see on Amazon. If you seriously need a deployable hook that's as functional as it is just plain cool, look no further than Countycomm, you won't be disappointed
I got this because a little over a month ago, I was working in an attic and dropped some tools down a wet wall. I tried the magnets and a rod, but some of the tools wedged in and the magnet wouldn’t grip. “I GOT MY KLINES BACK!” Using this little hook. Along with tester, and Philips screwdriver and a couple magnets. Worth the time and money.
I recieved the large grappling hook as part of one of the Mega Swagg bags. It seems well constructed enough even though I haven't had a chance to use it. (Should find use retrieving fallen limbs off the roof after the frequent severe thunder storms here in Florida.) This prompted me to pick up the more pocket friendly Pico version to my EDC tool pouch for possibly retrieving dropped keys, snagging stock boxes just out of reach, or those pesky socks that fall in between the wall and dryer. May even get the middle size one at some point. As you can see I've already got a few countycomm goodies that go with me whenever I leave the house.
