They are very lightweight, but strong. Much shorter than expected, but good for a small portable stove.
The handles are on the short side but still quite useful. Just be careful getting close to frying meat or popping grease and oil. The make effective small cooking spatulas too. Put together as tongs they’re plenty sturdy enough to handle flipping food of reasonable weight and the fact that the spatula ends on these are larger than the spoon sized ones you see on other models means that the they won’t just pinch right through the food you’re trying to manipulate when cooking.
Experienced backpackers are generally loath to add any kind of new gadgets to their load, but these are so light and pack so flat, only the most absolutely gung ho ultralight backpackers would consider their weight and size even noticeable. I'll grant, if you're going to eat nothing but freeze dried chicken and rice pouches for your whole hike, then you probably won't have much use for these, but if you're planning to do any kind of real cooking, these will be a godsend. The spatulas are small, but much better for flipping a burger or sausage patty than a spork. I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I think with both of them, you could turn over a pretty good sized fish filet in a pan without much trouble. As tongs, they are surprisingly grippy. I am able to hold a slippery ice cube pretty firmly. The texturing on the paddles and handles helps with that. They're good enough that I don't see any reason not to take them even on car camping trips where I can easily pack full sized kitchen utensils. They might even get some use as serving tongs at home, and now that I think of it, I'll bet the spatula with the slightly serrated edge will be perfect for serving bar cookies out of the pan. Fantastic design guys! Can't wait to see what you come up with next.
This things are so simple yet so clever.. small, light, and serves at least two uses. I would venture to think the slot in the one would work for a bottle opener in a pinch as well. As always CC has beautifully machined titanium.
Have not used these to cook yet but they are pretty amazing how well they join together and provide tongs as well as two great spatulas. They are very precisely cut and nest together making them easy to pack. also so light its like they aren't even there. Looking forward to get out and use them shortly.
