Layers of metals like copper, brass, and nickel silver are fused together, then carved and polished to reveal flowing, wood-like patterns. Each piece is unique, like a fingerprint.

- Traditional rokushō patina creates rich reds and browns on copper alloys.
- Modern patinas (like Ready Patina) simplify the process while protecting silver layers.
- Ammonia + salt can even produce striking blue tones.
- Selective Etching: Using mild acids like vinegar or muriatic acid removes small amounts of softer metal, creating subtle texture and contrast. A light polish afterward highlights the raised areas while the recessed ones hold darker tones.

- Matte finish reveals depth and grain with a softer, rugged feel.
- High polish gives a luminous, mirror-like surface with more subtle color.
