The E8 is designed for "pocket-perfect" dimensions, measuring just over 3.5 inches. I like the multi functions of this illumination tool. The beam is very useable with three settings, as is the “lamp” function. The UV light has come in handy trying to spot almost invisible stains on carpets and furniture (pets!). The dual fuel capability makes it a great option for a emergency pack or “get home bag”, but I have used the side lamp function the most as a handy bedside lamp for middle of the night trips. My only issue is the poly mount click mount. It is too stiff and tight and any effort to place the light into it till it clicks meets with a stuck mount on the light taking force to remove it. Still five start worthy.
This thing fits perfectly in the hand with its shape nice and bright on hi and functions nicely as a low light lantern. Great EDC light!
I like all the lighting modes. Main beam leans more flood than spot, color on the warmer/more natural side. Good brightness and differentiation between levels. I like the front UV, and the side lights are great. Build quality and heft all solid.
It will probably become my #1 travel light over my Maratac Pivot because of the UV and side lights, which make up for it being heavier and bulkier than the Pivot.
What I don't love about it. The tail switch is solid for on/off, but the mode switching press a little imprecise, and the four presses to switch modes takes a bit of practice to get the right touch. Not loving that. While I think the side scales are cool, I wish they were clip-in rather than magnetic. They are pretty easy to bump off by accident, and I foresee losing them over time. Also, would rather not have magnets on sides in general.
Lastly, I prefer external USB-C ports rather than opening to plug in the battery to charge. I know it compromises water resistance, but I hate having to open lights to recharge.
Overall, I'd give it a B. Very good all around light with three useful light types, but it's got some quirks that diminish its appeal as an EDC centerpiece.
Really solid light, I like it overall.
1. It's very bright on it's brightest, and it's dimmest setting is nice
2. UV is pretty bright too
3. Form factor is really nice, I like the small size
My only complaints:
1. The amber magnetic plastic pieces are interesting, but they fall off a little too easily in the pocket or even when handling.
2. The tail cap switch i tricky, and the instructions are a little bit unclear. I don't know if it's me (reading the instructions wrong?) or the switch but the only way I can make it switch modes is to keep clicking and clicking until finally it triggers. I've tried half presses, full presses, quick presses, etc. There seems to be some sweet spot that isn't clear to me in the instructions. Once I'm in a mode, the on/off and cycle (low/med/high) work great, it's just getting there that's difficult.
A couple things that I'd love to see on the flashlights in general (that I knew didn't come with this):
1. Magnetic tailcap w/ recharging. I can understand why the rechargeable battery makes sense (universal), but I really like the tailcap recharging I've see in other lights (+ removable battery, which this has)
2. Mechanical (not clicky/electronic) mode switching. 99% of the time i want a single mode and don't want to cycle thru (aside from the fact I'm having difficulty cycling)
3. Electronic lockout (push & hold for 3s to keep light turned off until push & hold for 3s to turn on, to prevent accidental turning on)
