Who wouldn’t want thread that will hold 40 pounds and is easy to carry, including our Uncle Sam? When Uncle Sam ordered Dyneema® Thread for his Combat Engineers, his EOD people wanted some too. We had more produced, and now we have some extras, fresh from the mill.
Specs: 50 Feet, 0.288mm thick on a dispenser roll with thread cutter. (Don’t let the thin size of this thread fool you, you must have a tool to cut this thread.)
The dispenser is compact and resembles a small dental floss box with a removable roll. Other than the box, there is no similarity to dental floss.
Why Dyneema® Combat Engineer Thread?
On a weight-for-weight basis, Dyneema® is 15 times stronger than steel and is 40 percent stronger than most aramid fibers.
Purchased as a replacement for the standard dental floss in a backpacking/camp repair kit. The dyneema thread is quality and strong, extremely light, though the dispenser is a little iffy. It's a snap-together case and frequently allows the thread to drift and get stuck in the seam between the two halves of the case. If desired, you can easily split it and simply carry the spool though. Carry a needle with a slightly larger eye, the thread is woven and tends to unravel a bit when cut, and it can be difficult to hand-thread a smaller needle.
This stuff is so strong that I could almost tie it to the back of my Silverado and pull a broke down Ford to the nearest garage.....
I have read about the many uses for this amazing thread. Bought a small spool to pack in the bugout bag. Thanks CountryComm.
