Maratac AAA Copper Rev. 6 Flashlight

About 15 years ago I decided that I wanted a small flashlight to EDC. I tried numerous brands such as SureFire, Inova and a host of others. I ended up going with an ARC AAA that I carried attached to my keyring every day. The 5 lumen output of the ARC was perfect for my need of a simple basic source of light. I was sufficiently impressed with it to buy another one and give it to a family member who was deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq.

A few weeks ago, I noticed that the ARC was starting to show the wear of the many miles that it had been faithfully carried in my pocket. I started looking around for a decent replacement for it. I came across the Maratac Copper Rev. 6 as a possible replacement.

I have found that I use a small EDC flashlight pretty much every day to meet the odd need for a little bit of light. I prefer the AAA format as this size carries comfortably and unobtrusively in my pocket. The Maratac is a bit shorter in length than the ARC is but a bit wider in overall width than the ARC is. So far it seems to carry comfortably in my left front pocket attached to my house keys.

The ARC was listed as having a light output of 5 lumens for 5 hours. The 5-lumen low setting output of the Maratac is advertised as lasting for 65 hours, I don't know how true that is in reality but at least it is said to be substantially longer than the 5 hours of the ARC. In view of the sort of employment that I use an EDC flashlight for the low setting is more valuable to me than is having a blindingly bright output that only lasts for a short period of time.

The construction of the Maratac is well executed and the light feels solid and substantial in the hand. I am not an expert on the tint of the light's beam color as some individuals are and as such the color of the light it generates is fine for my needs. I especially like the ability to turn the light off and return to the previous light level setting without having to cycle thru all 3 levels of light output whenever the light is turned on. I have had lights with a push button operation go on in my pocket and run the battery down. In view of that experience, I prefer the twist on and off design of the Maratac over the push button design.

When the light first arrived at my residence, I looked it over carefully and put an Energizer Ultimate L92 AAA Lithium battery in it and turned it on. I use the L92 lithium batteries in all my AA and AAA size flashlights as a matter of routine as they appear to work better for me as an all-weather source of battery power and seem to provide the brightest level of light output. I cycled thru the 3 levels of light output and familiarized myself with the light's operation. I then put a small amount of Nyogel 760 G grease on the threads and the o ring as is my standard routine with flashlights which has worked well for me over the course of many years.

I was sufficiently impressed with the initial operation of the Maratac that I immediately ordered a second one as a backup to keep in storage. In view of the difficult days we now live in pursuant to product availability I thought that it was more prudent to order the backup light while it was still available on the market.

This particular light format works well for me, and I will be interested to see just how well it holds up over the course of the following years. CountyComm was very prompt in shipping the order out and I would recommend them if one were interested in their product line.
