Once they started vacuum sealing the REV 2, I’m sure everyone noticed how wrinkly and stiff they would be, even weeks after they were opened and being used.
I still had a couple sealed bags from my previous order on 06/09/2020.
I just received my current order on 03/26/2021 and decided to compare a Gaffer bag from each order.
Previous Gaffer bags REV 2 were being produced in China. They are still great quality bags and the only way I was able to destroy one was using it as a bench rest bag and my suppressor ended up melting part way through while we were setting up new targets. It’s now a "pickup brass rang bag".
Current order I received Friday are being produced in Vietnam. In my opinion, these new ones seem much nicer/cleaner in the stitching and materials used. The one in my comparison measured about 5/8” wider opening at the top than the one made in China and no wrinkles to worry about.
In my honest opinion, country of origin doesn’t matter for these Gaffer bags, they are some of the strongest and most useful bags I’ve used in a long time.
Whereas this bag certainly can store emergency tools you keep in your vehicle, their shape may not be conducive to a cylindrical container. And there is the possibility of scratching the tools. That said, there are myriad other use cases. To add a few to those other reviewers have mentioned:
* Extension cords
* Jumper cables
* Cooking kit built around a large cookpot
A few years ago, I bought a few County Comm gaffer bags and put them to use for their original purpose, on set, holding small clamps, parts and expendables needed on location for film/video productions. They’re the best I’ve found, very rugged & the Velcro loops make it easy to label what’s in them. I also use them at home in my workshop and while camping.
For a while, they were out of production, but when I found out they were available again I bought a bunch more - once you’ve used them, you find more & more uses for them.
This new version is just as well-built, plus they now have a rain gusset you can pull closed, which keeps stuff from getting wet or full of dust. Even better, the gusset closes it up so that when you load up your gear, things won’t fall out or get dumped out into your truck on a hard turn.
The price is good and the quality is exceptional. When on location, I have one for all my replacement lamps (‘bulbs’) for the light kits, one with small gaffer & C47 clamps, gaffer tape, etc., one filled with camera logs & pens and a small slate with its markers, and one to stash 8-10 water bottles... the list goes on and on.
I have a buddy who’s a roofer who uses one to hold nails: nothing else lasts on shingles, which will wear a hole in most other bags/containers in no time. It was perfect filled with screws when I built a big deck recently... like I say, once you’ve used one, you’ll keep finding more uses for this little bag. Get several - they’re not always in stock.
And no, I don’t get anything for this review. I really like these little bags - honest.
I wanted a EDC bag that I could wash and disinfect when needed. Taking your good bag out on rare covid- 19 trips for essentials did not appeal to me. This bag is the perfect solution. You may want to re-hydrate the bag soaking in a bucket of hot tap water for an hour on arrival. As the packaging it arrives in is a harsh environment. Everyone says I need to send Mike a photo modeling it!! You will love it !!
