Peanut XL:

After numerous responses and requests with the Standard Peanut and Split Pea Lighters our staff members wondered what could be done to make it better. The answer is make it bigger and also increase the size of the spark wheel for even easier use with and without gloves. These two changes make a dramatic difference in extended run time and versatility of use in any condition. The XL Peanut Lighter is also perfect for extended trips where you will need more than a few days of firestarting.

Here's what we came up with to improve it:

  • ( 2.38'' x .7 ")
  • Weight: 37 Grams
  • Spare Flint and O-ring Pack Available separately
  • Holds 3x as much fuel as the Peanut and 5x more than Split Pea

Decent Product

I was happy with the lighter during the brief time I owned it, but be aware that no matter how tightly you screw the cap and lighter together, it will loosen itself over time. I found that out the hard way while out for a walk today, when I got near home to discover it had separated itself while I walked. Unfortunately, despite backtracking the whole route, I was unable to locate it.

If, like me, you prefer to keep your keys hanging from a belt loop or pocket clip, you would do well to keep this lighter elsewhere than on your keychain.

Secret EDC Mode for ALL Peanut Family Lighters

My personal version is an anodized Peanut XL that has been in my pocket (on an old school ball link key chain) for a few years next to my County Comm Dlerin AA Battery Capsule (backup power for my single AA LED flashlight). The lighter holds a charge of fluid for months - I test it once a month to be sure, but I only need to top it off it about once or twice a year (it's an EDC item only. not in daily use).
The "Secret EDC Mode" is how to ensure the next level of availability, so it's always in service when you need it. - because that's the essence of EDC done properly.
The lighter shipped with two replacement flints which are VERY easy to misplace or leave at home.....unless....
You remove the flint retaining screw and simply insert a second flint over the working flint. Mine has been configured like this for over three years and NO problems with spring tension loss. Then just place the second backup flint under the fiber plug that covers the fiber fill reservoir filling, and you're covered by two backup flints that are available EDC and you haven't lost like a damn tenderfoot.
I also adjust the wick to a very short exposure to conserve fluid (this is not a "wind proof" ligher no matter how large the flame is set to).

TI Peanut XL

Have had the brass Peanut XL for a number of years now and it's been excellent.
This titanium version is the same and more.
The subtle improvements are great.
Want something long lasting and mostly unbreakable, this is it.
Highly recommend !!!!

Fiddly but still best in class

I bought the split pea, peanut and peanut XL all in titanium.

My split pea arrived with brass tube so tight against the titanium housing that, whenupon filling it for the first time and pulling out the insert by the flint wheel, I pulled the flint wheel and cap clean away from the brass tube leaving the tube stuck in the Ti housing. After fishing the tube out, I did some light filing on the brass tube (on the protruding side of the dimple, where it makes contact with Ti). The whole assembly (tube, cap, wheel) are now snug in the housing but easy to remove without fall apart.

The regular peanut has the best seal of the bunch.

The peanut XL had major leak issues- I sealed it in a small bag overnight and upon opening the next day: the smell of gas was present but it quickly dissipated. I replaced the 0-ring with an o-ring from the county comm kit (a kit I paid money for) but the issue persisted.
I ended up buying an o-ring kit from amazon and after sizing it up (always size up so as to not jack yo threads): It stopped leaking! Or at least so conspicuously... Cool lighters!

Solid

Great to have this on the keychain, never have to worry about not having fire again. Zippo’s go dry. Love ‘em, but they go dry.
