Using A Single High Quality 18650 battery we got the following results:
We are plagued with regular power outages in my country so I wanted to get my wife and daughter a reliable and long-lasting personal emergency lighting set-up. These appealed to me as they could be used as a headlamp or standalone, with an option to attach it anywhere there's a metal surface, thanks to the magnet at the base. I've also found 18650 powered lights to be excellent in terms of run-time and have a couple of my own already. Because they are being used by non-gadget freaks, I wanted the UI to be simple. So far, these look like just the ticket. They are light weight and compact, the headlamp housing and straps they come with look to be of good quality and robust and the LED issues more than enough light for most uses. FYI they have a more floody beam which is a good thing for general purpose use. Most importantly, the ladies seem very happy with them so... 'winner, winner, chicken dinner'! ;)
I purchased this over an Olight Perun 2 for several reasons:
1. Cost
2. Magnetic bottom
3. Brightness
4. I have a bunch of 18650s
When I first received the light, it was missing the magnet. CountyComm sent me one quickly to resolve the problem. I was also sent another spring, which was a nice surprise. The magnet was super easy to install.
The light is ungodly bright on Turbo, quite bright on high, and the medium and low make good inspection lights. The moonlight (lunar low) setting will be great when I need to see my way but not disturb others around me.
I used the light for about 2 hours the other day before the battery ran out. I think it was set on high for the most part, but I was busy working, so I wasn’t really paying attention to the settings. Looking at the run times, I might have been in turbo, but it could be the case of using an old battery. I got the job done, but I’ll have another charged battery (in my CountyComm battery locker) with me from now on at work.
The light is very lightweight. In fact, I thought it was plastic at first, but it’s sure enough high grade aluminum. Of course, it does weigh a lot more with the battery installed, but it isn’t heavy enough to bother me on my head after extended usage times.
The build quality of the housing is excellent, and the threads are smooth to operate. The lens, leds, and reflector are very high quality from what I can tell…they certainly get the job done.
The head-strap is nicer than I thought it was going to be, and works well. It is super easy to install or remove the light, as well as to manipulate the sizing, and it’s pretty comfortable. I would prefer that it was all black, but the orange and silver accents will make it easy to spot.
When I got the light, the button would often stick in the depressed position when I pushed it on the 9 o’clock, left side position (light upright, facing away) of the button. This did not happen when pressing it anywhere else around the button’s circle. I clicked it repeatedly about 100 times in a row, scraped under the button edge with a poking tool, and now it seems to function as it should every time. Maybe there was a rough edge on one of the parts that needed to be smoothed out or something.
Since the magnet issue, as well as the sticky button issue are resolved, I’m giving this a five star rating. It’s a really nice headlight, and the magnetic bottom feature makes a for a great stationary work light. I’ll bring it on my next camping trip (with 2 backup batteries) to use as my primary light, as it’s bright or dim enough for any situation and it’s waterproof.
At first I thought that I would use it as headlight only. Then while repairing heating unit in the ceiling I attached it to nearby steel support and had a great light. Pocket clip can shift, which also serves as a support for angled uplight if placed on flat surface - use it to light up circuit boards when servicing. At night I use night mode and by shining it off the wall can see enough without disturbing wife with bright lights. Battery lasts a long time too. This is perfect for what I do.
Mine does everything claimed except:
Clip to a ball cap. Either the clip pops off or the light slides off every time.
Loosening the head doesn't lockout the light. Mine requires head removal to keep it from working.
The size is nice and small for a 18650 flashlight, and it sure as hell is bright.
things I'd like changed though are the ability to change a few settings. I personally like it to turn on turbo mode first.
The on-off button could be a bit more recessed to prevent accidental discharge
Coating's not the toughest around. It's already got a few scratches on the body
My light didn't come with a pocket clip, which was a bummer. I was shipping from a forwarding address and they're sending a replacement there again. unfortunately, this means I've got to spend more money on a mistake that wasn't mine.
